More than a Hack is a pioneering football analytics hackathon organized by Mobile World Capital Barcelona, Barça Innovation Hub and Metrica Sports that merges innovation with real FC Barcelona match data.
We are back… and bigger!
Last year's first edition started with a single challenge and brought together ambitious teams who pushed the limits of innovation in sport. It was a complete success, so Barça Innovation Hub and Metrica Sports are back to announce that we’re taking it further!

TWO phASES AND ONE SHOT AT THE STAGE
1. REGISTRATION: October 1 - November 10 (online)
2. INITIAL CHALLENGE: October 20 - November 17 (online)
3. INNOVATION CHALLENGE: November 26 - January 14 (online)
4. FINAL PITCH: March 2 2027 (on-site at Talent Arena)
Your journey starts during the registration phase!
INITIAL CHALLENGE (all registered teams)
Join your team and estimate team possession for every frame of a football match. Work with provided automatic tracking data and homography rather than building detection, identification, appearance and calibration systems from scratch.
All submissions will be automatically evaluated and ranked.
INNOVATION CHALLENGE (top 20 teams from the Initial Challenge)
Now it's time to think beyond the expected, turn ideas into reality and create valuable solutions for the future of sport. Pick analytical or tactical questions and freely explore various approaches to analysis, modeling, interpretation or insight generation.
Focus on the aspects of the game they deem most relevant!
FINAL PITCH (top 5 teams from the Innovation Challenge)
And at the end? If the professional jury selects your project, you will make it to the final! At Talent Arena 2027 you will put your solution in the spotlight, share your vision and show why your team has what it takes to go beyond the hack.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
REGISTER
Register now online and start proving your talent!
IMPORTANT: Each team must be composed of 3 to 5 members (Teams with less than 3 members will not be eligible for the Innovation Challenge and the Final Pitch.)
BEFORE
Before starting the Innovation Challenge phase, the top 20 teams from the Initial Challenge will be announced and encouraged to work on a dataset of 10 professional matches, under realistic analytical conditions and with specialized technical mentoring.
The top 5 teams from this second phase will be invited to travel to Barcelona and pitch their projects at Talent Arena 2027.
DURING
During this competition, you will have the opportunity to work with real datasets, provided by FC Barcelona and Metrica Sports, including:
